The Builder’s Profile has linked up with the Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme (CHAS) in a move which will help to rationalise the multitude of pre-qualification systems in the construction industry.

The new linkage with CHAS, announced today at the 2009 NSCC Annual Lunch, enables contractors and clients registered with the Builder’s Profile to verify the health and safety details of their suppliers
registered with CHAS. By accepting a company’s pre-qualification information via the Builder’s Profile, buyers can now go straight to the records of their suppliers on the CHAS database at the touch of a button. The Builder's Profile has also been extended to include all the CHAS questions and CHAS will now accept the Builder's Profile as an application for assessment.

NSCC Chief Executive Suzannah Nichol MBE welcomed the link up with CHAS:

“Some Specialist Contractors are completing more than 100 bespoke pre-qualification questionnaires every year, all requesting essentially the same information. By working with CHAS, the Builder’s Profile enables contractors to verify the health and safety records of their CHAS-registered suppliers on the one hand and sub-contractors to apply for CHAS by simply submitting their Builder’s Profile on the other. Mutual recognition between existing pre-qualification schemes is the key objective of the Safety Schemes in Procurement (SSIP) Forum and we are delighted to support that.”

The Builder’s Profile is an online service which allows sub-contractors to submit the same pre-qualification information to different contractors and clients without filling in duplicate questionnaires. Contractors and clients can accept and view information from their sub-contractors without manually inputting the data from paper questionnaires. The Builder’s Profile contains all common pre-qualification questions and has the potential to reduce the administrative burden and costs associated with pre-qualification for all parts of the supply chain.
