The Health and Safety (Miscellaneous Amendments) Regulations 2002 amended Regulation 3 of the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 by adding the following paragraph:
"(5) Any first-aid room provided pursuant to this regulation shall be easily accessible to stretchers and to any other equipment needed to convey patients to and from the room and be sign-posted, and such sign to comply with regulation 4 of the Health and Safety (Safety Signs and Signals) Regulations 1996 as if it were provided in accordance with that regulation."
Regulation 3(5) came into force on 17 September 2002.
Practical advice for employers on complying with this duty is already given in the Approved Code of Practice and its accompanying guidance in paragraphs 47-51 of First aid at work (L74)[1]. L74 will be updated in due course to include the amendment to Regulation 3.
